Air Canada will end service to the US cities of Harrisburg, Rochester and Syracuse, effective 1 November, the airlines confirms.

"We adjusted our schedule to suspend flying to Syracuse, Rochester and Harrisburg due to the economic performance of these routes," Air Canadatells FlightGlobal.

The Montreal-based carrier serves the three cities from its Toronto Pearsonhub with 18-seat Beech 1900D aircraft operated by its regional partner Air Georgian.

Air Georgian will also end service between Toronto and Sarnia, and Calgary and Red Deer on 1 November as well, FlightGlobal schedules data shows. The regional airline operates no other routes from Toronto.

Air Canada Express operator Jazz Aviation will assume the Toronto-Sarnia flight using Bombardier Dash 8 turboprops, schedules show.

The Mississauga-based Air Georgian's other routes from Calgary, and those within the Canadian Maritimes, remain unaffected, according to the data.

In place of direct flights, Air Canada is selling itineraries to Syracuse and Rochester that involve connections in Chicago via its codeshare with United Airlines, its website shows.

Air Canada is not selling any tickets on its website for travel between Toronto and Harrisburg from the beginning of November.

Executives at the carrier have talked recently of expanding their agreement with United, including a potential immunised joint venture that would allow them to coordinate service between Canada and the USA.

Air Canada has grown rapidly to the USA in recent years, in a bid to carry more US travelers to overseas destinations via its Canadian hubs.
